Celebration of Australia Day at Arcadia.
An early start, seven am, up at the Community Centre in Arcadia for Lisa and Fran who were there to get the breakfast underway. Fruit to be cut up, tables to be set. By 7.45am the cooking of the chops, snags, bacon etc was underway. The aroma from the B-B-Q soon had the townspeople gathering and those from further afield within the Arcadia, Kialla and Karramomus districts duely arrived, some from Shepparton as well. About sixty people gathered to enjoy the meal and socialise to celebrate Australia Day.The finale to the morning was the raising of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem. Maree Caldow was our Australia Day Ambassador, she is a partner along with her husband John in the Caldow Harness Racing Stable, that is situated at Raidor Lodge in Melton. Maree has trained more than 500 winners in her short racing career. John is one of Australia’s leading freelance reins-persons. Maree is a vibrant woman with a bubbly personality and was pleased to asked to go up country to Arcadia as our ambassador. She was very popular with the local community and was one of the last to leave the function. |
